Pounded Again

Frank Disher Assaulted a Second Time by George Helminski

The assault and battery case mentioned in Thursday's daily, in which George Helminski was fine $5 and costs for pounding Frank Disher, developed into another and more serious fighting affray about 5:30 Thursday afternoon. Helminski, it appears, was angered by his punishment in court, and upon meeting Disher on Clark street, attacked him again and gave him a beating more severe than the first.

Helminski was promptly arrested by Chief Kingsbury, the charge being the same as in the first case, and he was taken before Judge Murat. District Attorney Frost appearing on behalf of the state. Henry Bender represented the prisoner, who is one of his employees.

After some discussion the examination was set for Thursday, the 11th instead and Helminski was released upon giving a $75 bond signed by Bender.

There was a great deal of excitement in the court room pending the temporary disposal of the case, almost everyone present taking part in the discussion and some of the disputants not being choice in their use of language. Joe Hammel, a delegate to the Grand Lodge from Medford, had an angry conflict with Louis Weisner at the close of which the Medford man demanded a warrant for Weisner's arrest, alleging the latter had called him and offensive name. He did not get his warrant, though Weisner appeared to be perfectly willing it should be issued.

Settled by the Fistic Route

Frank Discher, a horse fancier, whose home is in the town of Pike Lake, Marathon county, will not soon forget his experience while in Stevens Point last week. Wednesday evening he got into an altercation with Geo. Helminski, on Brown street, and received a couple of black eyes. This trouble grew out of a feud of long standing, Discher having accused Helminski's father with stealing a horse blanket and other articles, at one time, but finally settled the matter upon payment of $2.50. When the son met Discher on Wednesday, the latter fared badly, but George was brought before Judge Murat, Thursday morning, and fined $5.00 and costs, which he readily paid. After thinking the matter over again, however, Helminski seems to have concluded that Discher was not punished in proportion to the fine imposed by the court, and concluded to meet him on the field of battle once more. The two men met that evening near the corner of Clark and Second streets, and after Discher had circled around a telephone pole several times, he was overtaken by Helminski and an additional amount of coloring put on one of his eyes. Chief Kingsbury arrested Helminski and Judge Murat held him for examination in the sum of $75.00, the bond being furnished by Henry Bender. The examination will take place tomorrow.
