Disher To Run For Treasurer
Raymond Disher today announced he will be a candidate for Stevens Point city treasurer in the April election.
Incumbent Treasurer Marie Sullivan, who held office since 1960, had previously indicated she would not seek re-election, and she confirmed this today.
Disher, 51, is to date the only announced candidate for the treasurer's office.
He lives at 1501 Maria Drive, is married and has five children.
Disher, who said he has been a Stevens Point taxpayer for 20 years, was employed as a route salesman and supervisor by a local wholesale bakery.
He is completing a two-year course in accounting at the Stevens Point school of Vocational and Technical and Adult Education.
For four years, he served as clerk of the old Paderewski School District in the Town of Stockton.

Ray Disher, Portage County clerk, dies
Portage county Clerk Raymond A. Disher, 58, 1501 Maria Drive, died suddenly Sunday evening.
He collapsed at Meshak's Country Spa, 1025 2nd St. N., where he was employed part-time as a bartender, and died shortly after 6 o'clock at St. Michael's Hospital.
Mr. Disher was elected county clerk on the Democratic ticket last November and took office in January.
Under state law, the vacancy in the clerk's office will be filled by the County Board. The board has budget sessions next Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 10 and 11, and its next regular meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Funeral services for Mr. Disher will be held Wednesday, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with burial in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Mr. Disher's brother, the Rev. Francis Disher of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and the Rev. Chester Zielinski, pastor of St. Peter's will concelebrate the funeral mass.
Friends may call at the Shuda Funeral Chapel after 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Knights of Columbus, of which Mr. Disher was a member, will say the rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday and a general rosary will be said at 7:45.
Mr Disher was born Aug. 29, 1917, near Fancher in the Town of Stockton, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Disher.
He attended St. Mary's Parochial School, Fancher and St. Bonaventure's High School, Sturtevant.
Then he returned to Stockton and farmed there until 1946, when he moved to Stevens Point. He was employed by the Bake-Rite Bakery as a driver and route salesman, and from 1965-67 was manager of the company's branch in Portage.
Then he enrolled at Mid-State Technical Institute Stevens Point and received an associate degree in accounting.
Mr. Disher was employed by the City of Stevens Point as a bookkeeper, payroll supervisor and welfare clerk before becoming county clerk.
He was president of the Co-Ci Credit union for county and city employees, had been a municipal employees' union steward, and represented the 7th Ward on the County Board for two years.
Mr. Disher was married Oct. 23. 1943, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic church, Fancher to Wanda Rzentkowski, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Donna) Olsen 3117 Channel Drive, and Mrs. Clifford (Debbie) Pflugardt, 18 Jacklin Manor, Plover; three sons, Gregory, Route 5, Stevens Point, Raymond Jr., (Tony), 2001 Minnesota Ave., and Michael, 2009 Texas Ave.; three brothers, Peter, Plover, Stanley, Winona, Minn., and Father Disher, and two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Regina) Timmerman, Milwaukee, and sister Mary Disher, St. Joseph's Convent, Stevens Point.
A brother preceded him in death.

Wanda Disher
Wanda Disher, 77, 216 Prentice St. N., Stevens Point, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at the Portage County Health Care Center,
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with Rev. Robert Schaller officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Shuda Funeral Chapel. A Bible vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Donations may be made to the American Heart Association and the Diabetes Foundation in lieu of flowers.
Mrs. Disher was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Fancher, a daughter of the late Julius and Regina (Ostrowski) Rzentkowski. She attended Amherst schools.
She was married to Raymond Disher on Oct. 23, 1943, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Fancher. He died Nov. 2, 1975.
After the marriage, they farmed in the town of Stockton for three years, then lived in Stevens Point.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Ralph) Olsen, Stevens Point, and Debbie (Clifford) Pflugradt, Green Bay; three sons, Gregory (Gail), Raymond "Tony" Jr. (Star) and Michael (Debbie), all of Stevens Point; six sisters, Edna (Edward) Glisczinski, Bernice (Richard) Gawinski and Leone (Russell) Brantmeir, all of Menasha, Virginia Isherwood, Two Rivers, and Rita (Robert) Demski and Germaine (Ronald) Borski, both of Amherst; two brothers, Victor Rzentkowski, Stevens Point, and Richard (Diane) Rzentkowski, Amherst; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
